From August 8 through September 11, foundation and grantmaking representatives around the country will meet with their lawmakers during the August congressional recess for Foundations on the Hill District Days. This will be a distinctive opportunity for foundations to showcase their programs or recent achievements, and for foundations to demonstrate their impact and reach in their local communities. In preparation for District Days, the Legal Services and Public Policy Department at the Council on Foundations has recently developed a new resource, A Foundation’s Guide to Advocacy (PDF). This handy guide provides useful tips for communicating with lawmakers and provides explanation on foundation lobbying rules. Also included is step-by-step guidance in planning and coordinating district and state events and formal meetings with lawmakers and their staffs.
